Scientists have debunked the secret of long life
The more you eat hot the more you postpone death.
If you really love it, you might really have more years to enjoy it. A new study from the University of Vermont found that those who consume red hot peppers have a 13% lower risk of death compared to those who do not eat.
Although the exact reasons for this are not clear, scientists have several ideas.
Capsoicin, the leading component in the peppers that supplies lutein, probably stimulates cellular mechanisms against obesity, which in turn leads to a reduced risk of cardiovascular, metabolic and lung diseases.
It is also likely to protect against heart disease and has antimicrobial properties.
An interesting detail is that typical consumers of red chillies have bad habits, such as smoking and drinking alcohol.
